The 18th meeting of the BRICS Contact Group on Economic and Trade issues was held on May 10-12 in East London (South Africa). Delegates discussed cooperation development between BRICS countries with an active participation of the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology (Rosstandart).
The meeting was attended by representatives of the national metrology and accreditation bodies of South Africa, Ministry of Industry of Brazil, as well as participants from various authorities of India and China.
Within the framework of the event, several other meetings took place such as devoted to the issues of intellectual property and electronic commerce. Participants reviewed the draft of the Working Mechanism on Technical Regulations, Standards, Metrology, Conformity Assessment (and Accreditation). It is aimed at providing information exchange, as well as implementation of joint projects in the mentioned areas between the competent bodies of BRICS countries.
Russian delegation was headed by Natalya Strigunova, Deputy Director of the multilateral economic cooperation Department of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
Rosstandart was represented by Maria Pishchulina, Deputy Head of administrative and external relations Department. During her presentation at the meeting she spoke about Russian national quality infrastructure.
Quality infrastructure systems of BRICS countries were in the focus of special attention in order to develop specific areas of cooperation and identify responsible bodies.
